more-in

An employee of a private school was arrested on Thursday for allegedly molesting a class 1 student in the premises.

The accused, Srinivas, is part of the support staff. He allegedly molested the child in the toilet.

The principal of the school told The Hindu that a complaint was lodged after the parents approached her in the morning and narrated the incident. The school has terminated the services of Srinivas, who has been working there for seven years.

"While some of the female support staff are allowed inside even while children are in the toilet, male members are not. They are only supposed to ensure that students use the restroom and go back to the classes immediately. Srinivas was employed for cleaning the toilets," she said.

She said that members of the child protection committee followed the prescribed norms and ensured that a police complaint was registered.

The Hennur police have registered a case under the POCSO Act.
