The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has suspended the Hindi teacher of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Hebbal, who was accused of physically assaulting a class eight student on Tuesday.
The issue came to light after the child’s parent filed an online complaint with the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) alleging that his son’s face was swollen, and that it was not the first time that the teacher had subjected him to corporal punishment.
P. Devakumar, deputy commissioner, KVS, Bengaluru regional office, said that the teacher L.C. Ram was suspended after he acknowledged hitting the child in class. “Further action will be initiated after we get the inquiry report,” he said.
D.V. Ramakrishna, principal of the school, said that the teacher admitted to beating the boy as he was disturbing the class. He added that the school has taken suo moto cognisance of a report in The Hindu and had ordered an inquiry. “We have constituted a committee that will speak to parents, students and the teacher, look into the allegations and submit a report, which will be forwarded to our regional office,” he said.
The parents have been asked to depose before the school committee.
“The student had not attended class on Thursday, but nearly 50% of the students were absent as annual examinations are scheduled from Saturday,” he added.
The KSCPCR has issued summons to the school management and will hear the case on Monday.
