The Jammu and Kashmir government today welcomed the formal award of the Srinagar Semi-Ring Road project by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Minister of Public Works Naeem Akhtar said. Earlier today, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said the NHAI had awarded the Rs 939 crore-project for the construction of the proposed Srinagar Semi-Ring Road to Ramky Infrastructure. "The NHAI has issued the letter of award for construction of the proposed Srinagar Ring Road-Bypass from Gallander to the crossing of Sumbal Road," the ministry said in a statement. The 42.10-km road project, with an estimated cost of Rs 939.41 crore, would be implemented on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode, the statement said, adding the construction period was 36 months. The entire greenfield alignment has been proposed on the western side of Srinagar city to provide connectivity to the habitation on that side, it said. It would also provide smooth and easy traffic flow in and around Srinagar city. The Ring Road-Bypass will traverse 52 villages and 6 districts, Pulwama, Budgam, Baramulla, Srinagar, Ganderbaland and Bandipora, the statement added.
