Indian women's Twenty20 cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur joined the Punjab police as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), in Chandigarh today.
The stars on her uniform were pinned by Punjab Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh and Director General of Police (DGP) Suresh Arora.
Harmanpreet, who is a native of Moga district in Punjab, served the Indian Railways for three years as Office Superintendent at Western Railway. She resigned from the Railways last year and put in a request to join Punjab Police.
The post of Deputy Superintendent in Punjab police was offered to Harmanpreet Kaur by the state chief minister in July last year, following her scintillating performance in the Women's World Cup 2017.
The Punjab Chief Minister had also taken up the matter with the Railway Ministry with the request to waive off the 5-year bond condition.
