Marking the commemoration of its 50th years of official recognition, the Golden Jubilee Nyokum Yullo 2018 festival, one of the biggest socio-agricultural festivals of the Nyishi community of Arunachal Pradesh, was graced by Chief Minister Pema Khandu at the picturesque Yajali town. Nyishi tribe, a Tibeto-mongoloid race and one of the largest ethnic groups in the state, are known for their act of bravery and sense of unity since time immemorial. This pre-agricultural festival is not only a celebration of appeasing for God’s blessing for bountiful harvest but it is also a festival of paying obeisance to Nyokum deity, the rain god for peace, harmony and fertility in the society.
