The Age has picked up 37 finalist nominations at the Quill Awards for Excellence in Victorian Journalism, across 20 categories, more than any other news outlet.
The Melbourne Press Club named the finalists on Thursday, including investigative reporters Adele Ferguson and team Nick McKenzie and Richard Baker for the prestigious Graham Perkin Australian journalist of the year award.
Ferguson has been nominated for her investigations into business scandals, including in the retirement village sector, while Baker and McKenzie got the nod for their reporting on China's influence over Australian politics.
Chief sports writer Greg Baum is a finalists for the Harry Gordon Australian sports journalist of the year award.
"The high number of nominations across so many categories demonstrates once again the talent and versatility of our journalists at The Age," The Age editor Alex Lavelle said.
"We are committed to bringing our readers top quality, original journalism rather than commoditised news and it is great to see that recognised by the Quills."
The Age has dominated the artwork category, picking up all four nominations, and has taken three out of four of the cartoon nominations, including one for the late Ron Tandberg.
The Age Newsroom Team is a finalist for its breaking news coverage of the Bourke Street tragedy.
Ferguson and Mario Christodoulou are in the running for best business feature, while teams Ferguson and Sarah Danckert and Royce Millar and Ben Schneiders could win for best business news.
McKenzie and Baker are in the 'coverage of an issue' category twice and, together with James Massola and Fergus Hunter, are nominated for the Grant Hattam Quill for Investigative Journalism.
Team Ferguson and Danckert are also in the running for the Grant Hattam Quill.
Michael Bachelard and Kate Geraghty have been nominated for feature writing for their interactive Surviving Islamic State: Stories from Mosul. The Age Multimedia Team have been nominated for innovation in journalism for the same piece.
The winners will be announced at a dinner at Melbourne's Crown Palladium on Friday, March 16.
