A young woman has been charged after two teenage boys were allegedly run off the road in a terrifying carjacking on the Mornington Peninsula.

The victims of the carjacking , aged 17 and 18, were in a Holden sedan driving along Waterfall Gully Road in Rosebud when police allege a burgundy or red older model Toyota 4WD began tailgating them.

A group of people in the Toyota 4WD then began screaming at the teenage boys to get out of the car before allegedly ploughing into them about 12.15am on Thursday.

The two teenagers then fled from their Holden sedan, which contained their phones and power tools, and hid nearby until police arrived.

The car was later found burnt out on Trumans Road.

Detective Sergeant Peter Drake said the teens were "shaken" following the ordeal.

An 18-year-old Mornington woman has been charged with robbery, carjacking, criminal damage by fire and theft of a motor vehicle.

She has been remanded to appear at the Frankston Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The attackers were believed to be driving a Toyota 4WD, which had been stolen from a home in Rye on Tuesday night, police said.

The victims described one attacker as aged in his 20s, clean-shaven with an Australian accent.

Police believe the incident is also linked to the robbery of a woman, 27, and a man, 19, in a car park on Hove Road about 1am.

It is understood a woman and man were sitting in a parked vehicle when they were approached by male offenders about 1am, police said.

The offenders stole a wallet and phone before fleeing the scene in a vehicle similar to the one involved in the first incident.

One of the men involved is perceived to be of Caucasian appearance with a medium build and was wearing a dark-coloured hooded jumper over his head.

The investigation is ongoing.
