Former TV and film producer turned artist Emma Palmer will be one of the new faces at the next Handmade Market which is on March 17 and 18 at Exhibition Park in Canberra.
Emma, whose credits include commercials for Tourism Australia and videos for Crowded House and Silverchair, moved to Brayton, north-east of Goulburn, for a tree-change.
The mum of five, whose husband Lawrence is a plumber, discovered her talent for illustrating late in life, just four years ago.
"Both my parents were artists so I guess it was in the genes, but I think that probably intimidated me a bit," she said.
Her children, now aged from six to 15, inspired her to start writing children's books. Then she decided to illustrate them.
Her quirky, whimsical artworks now adorn everything from pebbles to wooden spoons to baubles, including commissioned portraits.
In her previous work life, Emma produced TV commercials and pop videos for Silverchair (including 1999's Anthem for the Year 2000) and Crowded House.
"We did Crowded House's last two videos and it was on set they announced they were splitting up, which was a bit depressing," she said.
Emma was looking forward to being part of her first Handmade Market.
"I'm really excited to be included," she said
Her line is under the name Emma Draws Everyday.
The Handmade Market will be open 10am to 4pm March 17 and 18.
