Porsche is very confident in the upcoming all-electric Mission E. So much so that it recently took a dig at Tesla during an in-house interview.
Prompted by the statement “One of the US-based manufacturers boasts that its vehicle can manage 0-100 km/h in under three seconds,” Weckbach didn’t hold back.
“But only twice – the third attempt will fail. The system is throttled. Porsche drivers won’t need to worry about anything like that happening. The Mission E will offer reproducible performance and a top speed which can be maintained for long periods. And that’s not all. The longitudinal and lateral dynamics of the Mission E will be typical of a Porsche and represent a real treat for any driver,” he said.
Porsche is keeping specific performance details under wraps but Weckbach did say that the 800 V architecture on which the Mission E is based will allow it to charge in just 20 minutes for roughly 400 km of mileage.
As with any Porsche, handling dynamics are also an important part of the Mission E. Consequently, the firm has invested a lot of time and money to ensure the Mission E is fitting of the Porsche badge.
“Our vehicle is a four-door sport saloon that can carry up to five people, with a very low centre of gravity thanks to the underfloor battery and all possible refinements to the chassis. Driving performance combined with driving pleasure – everyone is in for quite a surprise,” Weckbach said.
Four weeks ago, Porsche production boss Albrecht Reimold revealed that the company will soon start installing equipment for Mission E production at its Zuffenhausen plant. Construction of production-spec Mission Es will commence in 2019 and initially, the facility will have the ability to build 20,000 units annually.
