Dehradun police have busted a prostitution racket in course of a raid conducted on a hotel in Sahaspur on Wednesday. Police have arrested four persons, including the hotel owner, for their involvement in the sex racket. Besides, police rescued two women, one from Jaunsari and another from Jharkhand, from the spot. The hotel being not registered under Sarai Act, police are taking steps to seal it.
As per police, the quartet arrested have been identified as Karan Singh Rana of Sahaspur, the hotel owner; Anuj of Sabhawala, hotel manager; Ashish Bhatt of Patelnagar, a property dealer and Manish Barthwal of Patelnagar, a property dealer.
Karan Singh Rana, who hails originally from Saharanpur Uttar Pradesh, was allegedly operating sex racket from his hotel. Police said that involved as he was in criminal activities in Saharanpur, he later left Saharanpur and settled in Sahaspur. He had been sent to jail twice in the past for his alleged involvement in operating sex racket.
A case has been registered under sections 3/5//8 of Immoral Trafficking Act and 370 of IPC against the accused in Patelnagar police station, said a police officer.
Police sources said that during questioning, the hotel owner Rana admitted the crime. A police officer who is engaged in the investigation said that Dehradun police had acted upon receiving input of a high- profile prostitution sex racket operating from Sahaspur area. The team led by Vikasnagar circle officer Pankaj Gairola raided the hotel and busted the sex racket.
While being questioned, a girl from Jharkhand who was taken to the police station along with others said that the hotel owner had asked her to come three days ago as he said he had arranged some work for her. But as she came she was she was forced into prostitution, she said. Another woman who was also rescued said that the hotel owner had not paid her due for the service she had rendered to the customers.
Police recovered Rs 95,000 in cash aside from five mobile phones and two cars in course of the raid.
