PM inspects Kedarnath reconstruction works

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inspected the reconstruction works at Kedarnath via drone imagery and appreciated the works being executed by the State. While chairing the Pro-Active Governance And Timely Implementation (PRAGATI) video conference on Wednesday, the PM was  informed in detail about the works at Kedarnath by the State Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh.

The State authorities are feeling encouraged as the PM appreciated Singh and his team for the reconstruction works during the video conference also attended by all Chief Secretaries and Government of India secretaries. Officials said that Modi was appreciative of the pace of the work and the use of modern technology for showing the status at Kedarnath live through drone imagery.

Singh informed Modi that the courtyard of Kedarnath shrine has been expanded from 1,500 square metres to 4,125 square metres. The base for the floor is ready and the work of laying stones is presently underway.

Debris about 12 feet high covering a 270 metre area from the confluence of the Mandakini and Saraswati rivers to the temple has been cleared. A 50-feet wide path to the shrine is being made with drains and ducts on both sides. He further informed that a 470 metre and 380 metre long protection walls are under construction along the Saraswati and Mandakini rivers respectively.

Work has also been started on the 3.5 kilometre long bridle path from Garudchatti to Kedarnath with work having been completed on a 1.6 kilometre stretch. Widening and upgradation is underway on the route to Kedarnath from Gaurikund via Linchauli.

The chief secretary also informed the PM about status of other reconstruction works at Kedarnath.

 It should be mentioned here that on October 20 last year, the PM had unveiled the foundation for five reconstruction work projects at Kedarnath.
