Two soldiers were injured in Pakistani troops firing in the Pir Panjal valley’s Poonch district on Thursday.
An Army official said the soldiers suffered injuries in Poonch’s Mankote Sector along the Line of Control (LoC) where “Pakistani army continued to use small arms, automatics and artillery on forward posts along the LoC.”
A post manned by the Army’s Mahar regiment came under fire in the morning in Mankore Sector, said the Army.
“Pakistan Army has initiated unprovoked and indiscriminate firing in Bhimber Gali Sector since 8.45 a.m.. The Indian Army is retaliating strongly and effectively,” said a Jammu-based Army spokesman.
The LoC running through Rajouri and Poonch districts have been volatile since January 14 this year. Hundreds of locals have been rendered migrants in border areas of Nowshera, R.S. Pura and Kathua.
Triggered by cross-border shelling in Kashmir valley since February 22, over 1,500 residents have been moved to safer places in eight villages in Uri.
