Death in custody on the Gold Coast
A woman has died in custody on the Gold Coast.
Preliminary investigations suggest the 50-year-old may have suffered a medical condition while in the Southport Watchhouse on Thursday morning, police said.
Despite attempts by police to resuscitate the woman, she was declared dead at the scene.
The death has been reported to the state coroner.
An independent internal investigation by the Ethical Standards Command will investigate the death and be overviewed by the state’s corruption watchdog.
