Market Now: Nifty PSU Bank index down 1%; Union Bank, Allahabad Bank top losers

NEW DELHI: Most of the PSU bank stocks including Union Bank of India (down 1.94 per cent), Allahabad Bank (down 1.90 per cent), Bank of India (down 1.81 per cent) and Punjab National Bank (down 1.78 per cent) were in the red in morning trade on Thursday, keeping the sectoral index down.
The Nifty PSU Bank index was trading 1.15 per cent down at 3,044 around 10:15 am (IST) on Thursday.
Shares of Canara Bank (down 1.44 per cent), Andhra Bank (down 1.41 per cent), Oriental Bank of Commerce (down 1.30 per cent), Syndicate Bank (down 1.15 per cent), State Bank of India (down 1.06 per cent) and Bank of Baroda (down 0.14 per cent) were also in the negative zone.
IDBI Bank (up 2.41 per cent), however, was up in the ndex around that time.
Equity markets were a little lower, in the wake of the fiscal deficit data which reached at 113.7 per cent of the full year's target.
Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was down 11 points at 10,482, while the BSE Sensex was 55 points down at 34,128.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 27 were trading in the green, while 23 were in the red.
