The Big Data analytics sector is poised for exponential growth in the country and it will boost job opportunities in the Information Technology sector, said Philip Liang, vice-president of Beltadati, a Singapore-based software firm.
Addressing students of the Amaravati campus of Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Mr. Liang said this sector was expected to witness an eight-fold growth by the year 2025.
“We have a lot of opportunities to work in data science in the next 20 years. Students can focus on these technologies and work in any country across the world,” he said.
With a rise in requirement for niche competencies in Artificial Intelligence and analytics, the skill/expertise of the IT workforce will spearhead the analytical transformation on critical business processes across the country, he said, adding that jobs in analytics and data science have grown by 100% over the last year adding thousands of employment opportunities.
He, however, cautioned that a large portion of people in IT sector will need to re-skill in data science to make the most of this employment boom.
