The Delhi Police said today they have arrested an alleged gunrunner from Siddhartha Enclave residential area in south Delhi and seized a cache of illegal arms from him. P S Kushwah, DCP (Special Cell), said a Delhi Police team was working to bust an illegal arms syndicate headed by the accused Vinod Kumar, 40, who belonged to Shikohabad. Manual surveillance was mounted to develop information about Vinod and members of his gang. Police teams were sent to Burhanpur, Sagar and Khargone in Madhya Pradesh, he said. After two months, an input was received that Vinod was on his way to Delhi to deliver illegal arms and ammunition to criminals. A source told police that Vinod had a meeting in Siddhartha Enclave near Ashram Chowk on February 28, he said. A special cell team laid a trap and arrested him.
Nineteen sophisticated pistols, five semi-assembled pistols and 20 live cartridges were seized from him, the officer said. During interrogation, he told the police that he used to receive illegal arms from Burhanpur (MP). He also told the police that he received cartridges from Shikohabad. Earlier, he was arrested by the UP Police in Shikohabad in 2008, in an arms smuggling case. He had joined the racket 15 years ago and claimed to have supplied more than 500 weapons to criminals in MP, UP, Delhi and Haryana, he said.
