JAIPUR: An assistant sub-inspector (
ASI) posted with Nagaur police was suspended after he accused a station house officer for harassing junior cops for extorting money from people.
ASI Mehram was suspended after he circulated message on social media in which he alleged that SHO of a police station was pressuring the station staff to
extort money from people of the area. The message created ripples in the police department.
"There are ways to raise such complaints, instead of informing senior officials about the case he sent a
social media message which is against the service rules," said SP Paris Anil Deshmukh, adding that a primary investigation has been launched against the SHO who has been accused of extorting money and pressuring the cops.
The SP said that there is vigilance office which takes care of such complaints and the ASI's conduct was against the rules laid down by the act.
The ASI Mehram, however, informed media that he has done nothing wrong and that he was pressurized by the senior cop to extort money from people.
"The SHO is at fault as he has been pressuring the entire staff of his station. He had also threatened that ASI Bansilal had died of some time back because SHO used to threatened him but no action was taken against the SHO," he told media in Nagaur.
The Rajasthan police had in the past advised its officials to use social media with due care and diligence. However, the later incident proves that the order failed to find much cheer in the lower hierarchy of the force.
