The arrangements for Thrissur Pooram this year will be based on an integrated disaster management plan with inputs from the departments of Forest and Wildlife and Animal Husbandry, Fire and Rescue Services, and police.
A high-level meeting attended by Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar and Education Minister C. Ravindranath here on Thursday directed the Thrissur District Collector to prepare the integrated disaster management plan for the festival. Deputy Chief Controller of Explosives R. Venugopal explained the security arrangements to be made for the fireworks display, an essential part of the Pooram.
The meeting decided to hand over the fire safety equipment installed at the Thrissur Round to the Fire and Rescue Services. The equipment was installed at a cost of ₹1 crore provided from Mr. Kumar’s constituency development fund.
Representatives of the Paramekavu and Thiruvambady Devaswoms demanded that the limit on stocking fireworks be enhanced from 2,000 kg to 5,000 kg. The Ministers replied that the issue would be taken up with the Central government and the Chief Controller of Explosives.
Officials from the Forest and Animal Husbandry departments were entrusted with the task of inspecting the elephants to be paraded at the temple. The animals would be issued fitness certificate the day before the festival.
Mr.Venugopal said the proposed fire park to be established at Wadakkancherry would make licensing of the pyrotechnic display easier.
