Unidentified thieves, one of whom is suspected to be the custodian of the cash van deployed to load an ATM, allegedly looted several lakhs of rupees from four kiosks in the district.
The well-planned crime took place on February 23 and came to light on Thursday. An amount of ₹7.63 lakh was looted from the ATM of Corporation Bank at T.B. Layout in Nagamangala and ₹4 lakh from the ‘india1’ ATM at Nagamangala.
Password changed
The amount looted from ‘india1’ ATMs at Basaralu and Kikkeri was yet to be ascertained as the passwords were changed, the police said.
According to the police, ‘Secure Value Agency’, a private agency that was hired to load cash, had filled the kiosks on February 23. However, all the four kiosks were opened later.
The security agency suspected the role of G.D. Arun Kumar of Gantagowdana Halli, Mandya taluk, one of the custodians of the cash van.
He knew the passwords of all four kiosks, procedures to load and remove cash, how to change the passwords, and also knew the absence of security guards at the kiosks, the police said.
“We received the complaint on Thursday and are trying to trace Arunkumar,” a senior police officer said. The police have sought CCTV camera footage from the kiosks.
According to the police, investigations are on.
