Two charged with attacking anti-corruption campaigner's dad

Two people accused of bashing a south-east Queensland anti-corruption campaigner have now been charged with assaulting his father.

Joel Fullarton, 19, and a 17-year-old man who can not be named for legal reasons, were charged with assault last year over the June alleged attack on Jim Doddrill in Ipswich bushland.

Mr Dodrill’s 73-year-old father, Mitch, was also allegedly beaten but two fresh assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed in company charges in relation to his injuries were not laid until Monday.

Both Redbank Plains man Joel, also known as Joel Reditt, and the younger man, from North Ipswich, had already been hit with the same charges over their alleged assault on Jim Doddrill.

Following the June 25 alleged attack, the younger Doddrill was hospitalised with head and other injuries, while his father suffered a stab wound to the arm.

At the time, the 52-year-old told Fairfax Media local resident Brian Oberholster had approached him as he was leaving church that morning, and he agreed to meet him near Henty Drive Park in Redbank Plains at 4pm.

When he arrived, the man led Mr Doddrill and his father about 400 metres down a dirt track before disappearing, he said.

Mr Oberholster, who had experience in covert political operations and was a former commander in the Special Branch of the Rhodesian police, previously said there had been "a lot of fake news and innuendo" published about the incident but he would not discuss what happened that day until he had spoken to the police.

Mr Dodrill is the president of the Ipswich Residents' and Ratepayers' Association and Ipswich Residents Against Toxic Environments, a group opposed to local dump expansion.

He has campaigned against alleged corruption against Ipswich councillors, and helped compile a dossier of allegations against former Mr Paul Pisasale and several colleagues tabled by then-independent MP Rob Pyne in State Parliament.

Both accused are due in court later this month.
