Esha Gupta quit corporate career to pursue her travel dreams

Solo woman biker Esha Gupta has full of positive tales to share about her journeys across the country.

“Most of my experiences have been great and only reinforces my faith in humanity. And it is because of these positive experiences that I am addicted to the road,” says the Bengaluru-based biker, who holds the record in Limca Book of Records for the longest motorcycle expedition in a single country clocking 32,000 km across 16 States in 110 days. Esha is once again on a solo ride and this time it is to the region she has so far not visited – a journey across the Northeast.

No tour map

Esha was in the city on Tuesday on her way to Bhubaneshwar as part of her NE trip. “This time I am riding without any pre-planned tour map. I am just enjoying the beauty of the journey and soaking in all the experiences in the regions I have not covered before,” she told The Hindu.

Armed with safety gears and an easy confidence, Esha will be covering the entire Northeast and charting her travel updates on her Facebook page Lone Gal Traveller. A hotel management graduate, Esha quit her corporate career to fulfil her travel dreams four years ago.

Speaking about her positive experiences during her solo journeys, Esha said: “Once in Odisha, I was caught in a traffic jam where my Google map wasn’t working. A young man came up to me and led me through a detour through a forested area. I trusted my instincts and blindly followed him.” She said good people are everywhere, but “social media paints a negative picture.” Staying in budgeted accommodation, meeting the locals and understanding the local culture and tradition are an intrinsic part of her biking experiences. “When you travel solo, you get stronger and more confident,” she added. As a woman biker, what are the challenges she faces? “

“Apart from physical challenges of handling my motorcycle if it breaks down, there are no other issues I have faced. Even then, I seek help from people around and they are more than happy to lend a helping hand,” she said.
