New secretaries named in Central govt. administration reshuffle

30 new secretaries for departments like mines, personnel, parliamentary affairs, animal husbandry and higher education

The Central government on Wednesday carried out a reshuffle in the administration with appointments in top bureaucracy at secretary level. The government appointed new secretaries for important departments like mines, personnel, parliamentary affairs, animal husbandry and higher education.

Gujarat’s Additional Chief Secretary (finance) Anil Mukim has been appointed as Secretary, Mines while Tamil Nadu cadre’s C. Chandramouli has been appointed as Secretary, Personnel, in the government. Both are 1985 batch IAS officers.

Another official from the same batch, Raghavendra Rao, has been appointed as Secretary, Chemicals and Petrochemicals while S.N. Tripathi has been made Secretary, Parliamentary Affairs. Inder Jit Singh has been appointed Secretary, Coordination in the Cabinet Secretariat and R Subramanyam has been made Secretary, Higher Education.

The orders were issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) after the Cabinet Committee of the Appointments, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi cleared the names.

Besides secretary level appointments, the list also includes bureaucrats in the middle level from joint secretary to additional secretary hierarchy. Karnataka cadre 1986 batch IAS Subhash Chandra has been appointed Additional Secretary, Defence Production, while Gujarat’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) B.B. Swain has been posted in the Department of Commerce as Additional Secretary.

Debashish Panda from UP has been brought in as Additional Secretary, Financial Services in the Ministry of Finance while Rajiv Ranjan Mishra has been made Director General, National Mission for Clean Ganga, an ambitious flagship project to clean the Ganga river.

There were as many as 30 officers in the list of orders issued by the DoPT on Wednesday.
