Highlights

  • The booking amount has not been specified yet
  • Airtel has also started taking registrations for subsequent orders
  • Galaxy S9 range is expected to launch in India on March 6

Samsung recently unveiled its latest flagship smartphones - the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ - at the Galaxy Unpacked event, ahead of Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona. While there was no official announcement around availability details for the Indian market, Flipkart and Airtel have already listed the phones on their respective website, with the latter already having started registrations for the same. Flipkart's product page for the Galaxy S9 range mentions that pre-orders will start at 2pm on March 6, which coincides with the India launch date.

Flipkart is set to go live with Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ pre-orders starting next week. No details around the booking amount and subsequent availability have been disclosed; we can expect more on that at the launch event on March 6. Although, we have sources telling us that the Galaxy S9 will have a starting MOP of 57,900 and the Galaxy S9+ will have a starting MOP of 64,900 in India. Samsung also announced a new DeX Pad at the Galaxy S9 launch event, however there are currently no details on its availability in India.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ specifications

The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ both get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC/ Samsung Exynos 9810 SoC, Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box, and QHD+ Super AMOLED 18:9 displays. The Galaxy S9+ has a bigger 6.2-inch display, compared to the 5.8-inch one on the Galaxy S9. The Galaxy S9+ is the only one of the two to get a dual rear camera setup that comes with a Super Speed Dual Pixel 12-megapixel sensor and a secondary telephoto sensor.

New features on the next-gen Samsung include 3D AR emojis ("not inspired" by Apple's Animoji), a new vertical fingerprint sensor placement, improved camera modes like Super Slow-mo, and a new range of colour options including Lilac Purple, Titanium Grey, Midnight Black, and the likes.
