Claims victim set herself on fire

The wife of Raja, the lab owner who was arrested in connection with the murder of lab assistant Yamuna, has claimed that her husband had not perpetrated the crime and blamed the victim for the incident.

Yamuna, who was working at a private lab in Madipakkam, died of burns at the Government Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital on Saturday. The police claimed that her employer Raja threw lab spirit on her and set her afire.

However, at a press meet held on Tuesday, Raja’s wife Lalitha and their lawyer A. Antony Robson claimed that Yamuna doused herself with the lab spirit and threatened to set herself on fire. “The spark from the match stick fell on her and her dress caught fire. He did not murder her,” said Mr. Robson.

He said that Raja tried to save her and in the process sustained burn injuries.

“He has been wrongly charged,” he claimed.
