The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen has written to the Ministry of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD), asking for the construction of three bridges over River Musi, parallel to the Nayapul, for accommodating vendors and hawkers affected due to the Charminar Pedestrianisation Project.
Party MP Asaduddin Owaisi today met Principal Secretary MA&UD Arvind Kumar and submitted a memorandum. “In this connection, we have proposed the construction of three parallel bridges — two bridges on the side of State Central Library to Salar Jung Museum, and one bridge on the side of Osmania General Hospital to old Government Maternity Hospital. These new bridges would be most convenient and suitable place for the vendors and hawkers,” reads the memorandum.
The last bridge constructed on River Musi was the ill-fated Muslim Jung Bridge, which was proposed in 1996 at a cost of ₹3 crore. Finally, it was completed at a cost of ₹ 14.5 crore in 2007.
