Chandni returns home for final judaai today

After three days of dramatic chain of events and intense speculation that followed Bollywood diva Sridevi’s tragic death at Jumeirah Emirates Towers hotel in Dubai, the Dubai authorities finally released her body on Tuesday after determining that she accidentally drowned in the bathtub following loss of consciousness.

“Dubai Public Prosecution stressed that all regular procedures followed in such cases have been completed. As per the forensic report, the death of the Indian actress was caused by accidental drowning following loss of consciousness. The case has now been closed,” said Dubai Government’s media office. However, it did not say why Sridevi lost consciousness.

The embalmed body of 54-year-old Sridevi arrived in a private jet of industrialist Anil Ambani in Mumbai on Tuesday night. The mortal remains of India’s first female superstar is scheduled to be consigned to flames at the Vile Parle Seva Samaj Crematorium in north-west Mumbai on Wednesday around 3.30 pm.

In its statement, (Boney) Kapoor-Ayyappan (Sridevi’s side)  family said her body will be kept at Celebration Sports Club in Lokhandwala near her home for people to pay their last respects from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm on Wednesday, before it is taken for cremation.

The family said the media can also pay their respects “provided camera, recording devices, etc, are left outside the venue”.

Earlier the autopsy finding had sparked intense speculation in the Dubai and local media, which among other things said that traces of alcohol were found in her blood and that the Public Prosecution’s office might order a second autopsy. A section of the media on Tuesday even went to the extent of saying injury marks were found on her body. However, much to the relief of late Sridevi’s family, the Public Prosecution’s office ordered the closure of the investigations and release of the actress’ body.

Sridevi’s family members, including her film-maker husband Boney Kapoor and stepson Arjun Kapoor, took the body from the Dubai authorities to fly back to Mumbai.

The 54-year-old Bollywood icon was in Dubai to attend a family wedding.  While Sridevi had stayed back in Dubai after the ceremonies, her husband Boney Kapoor had flown back to Mumbai with their younger daughter Khushi. But he returned to Dubai to surprise her, according to Khaleej Times.

In Mumbai, industry insiders and friends visited the family in the home of actor Anil Kapoor, Boney Kapoor’s younger brother.

Sridevi’s daughters Jhanvi (20) and Khushi (17) are currently in uncle Anil Kapoor’s residence in Mumbai, where the film fraternity members have been pouring in since Sunday to pay their respects.

Sridevi, Boney Kapoor and their younger daughter Khushi had gone to Dubai to attend the wedding of Mr Kapoor’s nephew Mohit Marwah. Boney Kapoor returned to Mumbai with their daughter after the wedding on February 20, while Sridevi stayed back. Boney Kapoor returned to Dubai on Saturday to surprise his wife, reports said. The couple was to go out for dinner. However, Sridevi collapsed in the bathroom while getting ready and was declared dead on arrival at the Rashid Hospital.
