Around 40 students, including three Special Olympics athletes, participated in athletics today as part of the third edition of the TISB Swimathon, a fund raiser, at the International School Bangalore (TISB) here. Following the triathlon lay out, 40 students will participate in Swimming and Cycling respectively in the next two days along with the students of TISB. There is an amount pledged for every lap swam or round cycled or run.
Every participant is attached to a few sponsors. TISB Swimathon is a creation of Hridey Sahgal who in 2016 (11th grade) conceived and executed the idea by building a team of Youth leaders. Starting as a one-off event, the Swimathon has become an annual event in the school, passing the baton to a new leader each year. Vrishabh Patil , who took over the project last year has named Parthav Shergill as his successor for the year 2018-2019. The objective of the event is to raise funds for the Special Olymics Bharat Athletes. In June 2017, the funds supported an Aquatics Training Camp held in Goa giving additional swimming practises to the probables pitching for Aquatics at the next Abu Dhabi 2019 games.
