₹30-crore drug seizure in Kochi

Excise sleuths have arrested one more person in connection with the drug haul worth ₹30 crore from Nedumbassery.

The arrested was identified as Yousuf of Thachampara village, Palakkad. Sleuths received information on him while tracking the phone calls of Faizal, the prime accused in the case.

Yousuf is believed to have helped the duo - Faizal and Abdul Salam - in concealing the drug consignment in trolley bags. Yousuf, who had been in constant touch with the accused duo for the past several months, had also played a role in transporting the drug from Mumbai to Palakkad.

The sleuths are now looking to examine the call records of Yousuf to confirm his role in the smuggling operation.

The department had arrested two Palakkad natives, Abdul Salam, 34, and Faizal, 35, while they were en route to hand over the 5.2 kg of Methylenedioxy methamphetamine (MDMA) to a person who had been waiting at the airport to board a flight to Kuwait.

The special squad arrested the duo after intercepting their car and seizing the drugs concealed in two trolley bags.

The department will soon approach the Interpol to trace ‘Bhai’, the kingpin of the racket, who is currently settled in the Middle East.
