Cape Town - A 36-year-old man was shot dead and another man was injured at the Macassar rubbish dump near Khayelitsha, Cape Town on Wednesday, Western Cape police said.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said the shooting occurred at the waste drop off point in Kramat Road shortly after midnight.

"Cases of murder, attempted murder and robbery was registered for investigation," he said.

He urged anyone with information about the shooting incident to pass the information to Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

In the meantime, the City of Cape Town, which manages the waste site, said the man who was killed was a security guard. It is suspected that it was a hijacking.
