Holi, the festival of colours, is around the corner. The festival is celebrated with much fervour and enthusiasm by young and adults alike. But the excitement level kids have is something different. For kids, the festival begins a month prior and begins the shopping for colours, pichkari, and water balloons. Since the past few years, with the introduction of chemicals in colours or filling balloons with eggs, the festival had taken an ugly turn. These acts can lead to the loss of eyesight or can result in skin problems. Asking kids to not celebrate the festival is not the solution as it is important to introduce kids to the Indian culture and festivals. Hence it is the responsibility of the parents to take proper precautions and ensure your little ones have a safe and happy Holi.
Use organic colours
Opt for natural or organic colours. These colours are easily available in the market or can be prepared at home using henna leaves, flowers, and turmeric powder. You can also suggest your kids try an alternate method to play Holi like celebrating Holi with flowers.
No water balloons
Ensure that no water is wasted and ask kids to opt for dry Holi. Explain kids the importance of water. Water balloons also cause injuries if not taken care.
No to Animal cruelty
Make sure your kids don’t sprinkle colours on animals which can cause serious health hazards to them. If the colours are inhaled by animals it may lead to nasal irritation, infection or allergies. In case you have any pets, make sure they are indoors for at least two days and let them out only after the colours are cleared from the road.
Contact list
In case of emergency, make sure you have a contact list of hospitals, ambulance, police and family doctors handy.
Skin and hair-care
To avoid harmful effects of colour, make sure you apply oil on their hair and cream all over the body. Also, make sure that they wear long and full sleeve clothes.
