more-in

Stating that by preparing forged documents, few people were trying to grab the graveyard used by the Scheduled Castes, residents of Anna Nagar in Rangampalayam blocked the Chennimalai Main Road here on Wednesday.

Residents said that members of their community were residing in Anna Nagar, Chinna Sadayampalayam, Sathya Nagar and Eraniyan Street II for many generations.

They said that the graveyard was being used by Scheduled Castes for many generations.

The area was earlier under municipality and now comes under the corporation limits.

Also, the ring road passes through the area due to which the land value in the area had gone up significantly.

They said that few real estate dealers were attempting to grab the graveyard and convert it into housing plots.

They said that documents obtained through Right to Information Act revealed that the land was earmarked as graveyard.

Hence, they urged the administration to initiate action against the real estate dealers.
