JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Feb. 28, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Society for Preventive Cardiology is holding a Town Hall that will unveil its mobile app to break down the barriers to PCSK9 Inhibitors, on Sunday, March 11th from 6:00-7:45 am at the Hyatt Regency Orlando in Orlando, FL.
While the debate about the pricing of these drugs continues, more than 110,000 people denied access to this drug class could have a stroke, heart attack, or other cardiac event this year according to new research.1
The ASPC aims to prevent this, through their novel and innovative tool that will simplify the process for clinicians and their office staff to gain patients access to these exceptional medications. The app will include a simple-step approach to gain access, single page prior authorization and appeal letters published by the ASPC, the Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and others, valuation models of drugs, case studies, references to key papers, names of "best and worst" insurance companies in each state, links to advocacy sites, information on specialty pharmacies and so much more.
"Too many patients have already been denied access to the greatest lipid lowering innovation in 30 years. How many people must suffer before we fix this problem?" stated President of the ASPC, Seth J. Baum, MD.
The Town Hall will also review the history of issues relating to, and recommendations for improving the process to access PCSK9i for patients, clinicians, and payers. Most importantly, it will provide a step-by-step tutorial on how to use the app and more easily and successfully access PSCK9 inhibitors. This mobile app may be the simple tool needed to break down barriers to accessibility.
