Cape Town - Car manufacturers often conduct hot weather testing in South Africa over the summer months. And usually these camouflaged test 'mules' are spotted by locals.

BMW has been particularly busy, testing vehicles in Gauteng and the Western Cape. In January Wheels24 reader Bevan Lategan spotted the next-generation X5 in Johannesburg and the automaker's new 8 Series Coupe was seen in Heidelberg.

And now more BMWs have been spotted. Ray Leathern snapped photographs of the i8 Roadster in Cape Town, the convertible version of the i8.

The production model is due to arrive in SA in May 2018 alongside the revised version of the i8. Read more about the i8 Roadster here.

Check out the snaps below:

Cape Town CBD's been great for car spotting lately. This time, the BMW i8 Spyder, flanked by new X5 (or X7, but didn't look big enough). Wasn't quick enough to snap the M8/8 Series following the convoy though ????. . . . #car #cars #carstagram #carsofinsta #carsofinstagram #igers #igdaily #carporn #instacar #carguy #carthings #iphoneonly #nofilter #instamood #instagood #lovemyjob #freefollowers #followback #motormag #motormagazine #motormagsa
