Demand prompt action against those responsible for violence at Secretariat, submit CCTV footage

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday submitted CCTV footage from the Secretariat to Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik and requested that action be taken against the culprits.

Senior party leaders Sanjay Singh and Ashutosh met Mr. Patnaik in the afternoon with a letter, demanding prompt action against those responsible for allegedly manhandling Delhi Minister Imran Hussain and Delhi Dialogue Commission (DDC) vice-chairperson Ashish Khetan.

Police complaint

Mr. Singh said Mr. Patnaik had assured that the matter will be looked into.

“We had sought an appointment with the Police Commissioner three days ago and wanted to discuss the severity of the attack on Mr. Hussain and Mr. Khetan on the premises of the Delhi Secretariat,” said Mr. Ashutosh.

Despite registering a complaint with the police on the ‘brazen’ attack by the mob, he said no action had been taken by the police.

“The police were unnecessarily active in the case of apparent manhandling of the Chief Secretary and have arrested two of our MLAs. Just a few kilometres away from the police headquarters life threats were made against Cabinet members but no action has been taken,” Mr. Ashutosh claimed.

‘Death threats’

Mr. Singh, a Rajya Sabha MP, said, “When the police were arresting MLAs, questioning others and also raiding the Chief Minister’s office on a complaint of alleged slapping, how were death threats and assault at the Secretariat not taken seriously? The law is the same for everybody in this country. We will also raise this issue in Parliament.”
