A 20-year-old businessman was shot dead at about 100 meters away from a police post by three unidentified bike-borne assailants in Bhangel area of Noida.
The deceased, Diwakar Kansal, was returning home with his father after closing their confectionery shop when the incident took place, said the police.
Bullet injuries
“The father-son duo was stopped by three bike-borne men who tried to loot their bag of cash. When they tried to resist the robbery, the miscreants opened fire at them. Diwakar sustained three bullet injuries while his father received minor injuries. Soon after this, the miscreants fled the spot with the bag of ₹5 lakh,” said Shwetabh Pandey, Circle Officer - 3, Noida.
Following this, the locals took Diwakar to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
No CCTVs
“The police post was just 100 meters away and yet the criminals managed to run away. There are no CCTV cameras in the area and no patrolling is done at night. We want the police to arrest the criminals at the earliest,” said Vipul Sanj, a resident of Bhangel.
The sub-inspector of Bhangel police post was suspended soon after the incident, said the police.
“The sub-inspector, Arun Kumar, has been suspended because of his negligence during duty. We have asked the circle officers to keep a check on all areas to curb such crimes,” said a senior police officer.
Angry mob
Soon after the incident, the angry mob started to protest demanding the arrest of the criminals. They began pelting stones at the PCR and also tried to set it on fire, said Mr. Pandey, adding, “We have assured the locals that the criminals will soon be arrested.” The police have registered a case against three unidentified men under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code.
