Backache is a big problem especially in women who tend to ignore it. However, following simple exercises and eating certain kind of foods can help provide the much needed relief, says Roshani Devi

While backache is a common aliment found in middle-aged or the elderly, it is the young too who suffer from it. There are many reasons why the ache may occur. Wrong sitting posture in the office, muscle tension, lack of physical activity or and even an improper diet.

Here are a few things that one can do to help deal with the pain.

Believe it or not, the good old ginger that one uses to cure a cod can also be used to treat backaches as it has anti-inflammatory compounds. Apply a paste of ginger on the affected area and then use eucalyptus oil. One can also drink herbal tea with one-half teaspoon of black pepper corns, one-half teaspoon of cloves and one teaspoon of ginger powder.

Most houses have  tulsi outside their homes. This holy leaf can also help cure backache. Take eight to 10 tulsi leaves and boil it in one cup of water till half remains. Cool it and add a pinch of salt. Drink this once daily for mild ache and twice for severe.

One has to ensure that the posture is correct. There are a few simple routine exercises.

Before you get out of bed, lie on your back and slowly stretch your arms overhead. Gently pull your knees to your chest, one at a time and rise. Once on the feet, put hands on the buttocks and lean back very slowly to stretch out the spine.
