Chicago White Sox third-base prospect Jake Burger, the No. 11 pick in last year's MLB draft, will undergo season-ending surgery on Thursday in Chicago after rupturing his left Achilles tendon.

Burger suffered the injury running out a ground ball against the Oakland Athletics on Monday.

"When something like this happens, you have a decision to make," Burger told reporters while wearing a walking boot Tuesday morning. "You can either kind of mope around and be disappointed in it, or you can take it as a positive thing and look at it as a positive. It's kind of an extended offseason, you know?

"It, but I have to stay positive."

Burger is the club's 10th-ranked prospect, according to MLB.com, and was No. 7 on Baseball America's list entering the season. The 21-year-old hit .263 with five home runs and 29 RBIs in 51 games between the Rookie-level AZL White Sox and Class A Kannapolis last season. He was expected to begin this season with Double-A Birmingham.
