MCC earmarks Rs 712.54 cr budget for city development

Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) members, on Tuesday, approved the budget worth Rs 712.54 crore for the financial year 2018-19. Chairman for Tax, Finance and Appeal standing committee K P Ashwini presented the budget at a general meeting, at the MCC, here.

The MCC expects a revenue of Rs 565.05 crore during 2018-19 and proposes to spend Rs 705.47 crore. The major revenue is property tax and water cess and the MCC expected Rs 127.02 crore from this head.

The MCC estimates to get Rs 55 crore from the state government for electricity and water supply and Rs 67.64 crore from the State Finance Commission. Similarly, Rs 42.10 crore is expected from the 14th Finance Commission. The MCC had expected Rs 39.47 crore for the year 2017-18 and the Finance Commission had released Rs 29.54 crore as on December end. The remaining funds are expected to be released by March end.

The civic body has earmarked Rs 2 crore for a sports club for MCC officials, employees and corporators and their family members. It has also decided to provide lifetime membership to those who have served the civic body.

Women empowerment

In order to empower women, the MCC has earmarked Rs 1 crore for a 'Mahila Sadana' at Ittigegoodu. Similarly, the council has decided to construct a skywalk at Maharani's College Circle with the funds released by the Finance Commission. In addition, the MCC will launch pink autorickshaws in the city. The financial aid will be extended to women to purchase autorickshaws.

The MCC has plans to construct bathrooms and e-toilets especially for civic workers at particular places in the city. In addition, life insurance policy will be offered to the workers. The premium amount will be paid with the funds of 24.1% welfare scheme.

Swimming pool, stadium

The corporation has earmarked Rs 10 crore for swimming pools at Chamaraja and Narasimharaja Assembly segments. In the previous budget, the funds were earmarked for a swimming pool, which developed at Krishnaraja Assembly segment. The MCC has also earmarked Rs 30 crore for a stadium for the benefit of students and youths at parts of the city.

Ashwini said that the standing committee has planned to take measures to increase the revenue to the MCC.
