Appeals Court Says Civil Rights Act Protects Gay EmployeesA Manhattan federal appeals court ruled on Monday that the federal civil rights law bans employers from discriminating on employees based on their sexual orientation, according to The New York Times. The case was from a 2010 dismissal of a Long Island sky-diving instructor but delivers an additional setback for the Department of Justice under President Donald Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions who sided with the employer. The Justice Department lawyers found themselves in the unusual situation of arguing against other government lawyers from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, who were representing Donald Zarda who was previously employed by Altitude Express.
