Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 1,119.51 crore on Monday.
The rupee edged down 2 paise to 64.81 against the dollar at the open today in the wake of month-end demand for the greenback from banks and importers.

There is considerable interest in US Fed chief Jerome Powell's first Congress appearance at a time when investors would like to know the pace of future rate hikes.

The local unit on Monday settled 6 paise down at 64.79 against the US currency.

Meanwhile, domestic stocks opened in the green, reflecting global cues. The BSE Sensex was trading 120 points up at 34,567 in early trade. The NSE Nifty index was up 32.70 points at 10,615.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth a net Rs 1,119.51 crore on Monday, as per provisional data. Domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 1,409.45 crore.

Government bonds (G-Secs) declined on selling pressure from banks and corporates in the previous trading session. Overnight call money rates turned higher riding on demand from borrowing banks amid tight liquidity in the banking system.

The 7.17 per cent 10-year benchmark bond maturing in 2028 declined to Rs 96.45 on February 26, from Rs 96.5875 previously. Its yield inched up to 7.69 per cent, from the earlier 7.67 per cent.
