It seems like we’ll have to wait a while longer to see Samsung’s Bixby-powered Smart Speaker. At MWC, Samsung Mobile President, DJ Koh told The Wall Street Journal that the company was going to release a “premium” speaker with Bixby in the second half of 2018. Previous reports had suggested that the company was planning to launch the smartphone in the first half of the year. Koh did not reveal any additional information about the device. Considering the fact that the company is planning to launch a premium device, it would compete directly with Apple’s HomePod speaker, and not other speakers like the Amazon Echo Dot and the Google Home Mini.
It should also be noted that Samsung unveiled a new version of Bixby at its annual developer conference last year. Called Bixby 2.0, the company said that it was reinventing digital assistants “from a novelty to an intelligence tool that is a key part of everyday life. The new version of Bixby would bring enhanced natural language processing capabilities for a more intuitive experience with support for natural commands and complex processing. It is expected to be a part of a number of devices ranging from smartphones, to TVs and more. This would allow the various devices to interact with each other.
Samsung recently launched its flagship smartphones at MWC. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ feature a dual-aperture lens arrangement with a f/1.5 for low-light shots and a f/2.4 for standard shots. While the Galaxy S9 sports a single camera at the back, the Galaxy S9+ sports a dual-rear camera setup with a one wide-angle and one telephoto lens. Further, The camera is also capable of recording slo-mo videos in 960 frames per second.
