‘Give nod to new vernacular schools’

| Feb 28, 2018, 03:01 IST
Panaji: The Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) has demanded that the state government approve all applications received by the directorate of education for 24 new Konkani schools and 14 Marathi schools for the academic year 2018-19. BBSM co-convener Subhash Velingkar, said over 500 Konkani and Marathi primary schools presently reel under governmental neglect. “On one hand the government likes to pretend that it is giving preference to regional language schools and on the other hand it is rejecting applications for new Konkani and Marathi primary schools. We warn the government not to play with fire and approve all 38 applications received this year,” he said. tnn
