ANN ARBOR, Mich., Feb. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners is expected to pass a resolution acknowledging the impact of important local stories told through the film, Me, The "Other". Commissioner Jason Morgan saw the World Premiere screening of the film and said, "I was just so captivated by how powerful the film was and the amazing stories it shares from our Washtenaw County community." The Washtenaw County Commissioners will honor the film with a special Proclamation immediately after the screening in Ann Arbor on March 7th at the main auditorium of the Michigan Theater followed by an audience Q&A with the cast and creators of the film.
The locally shot and produced documentary film is making a return visit to Ann Arbor following its recent triumphant, sold-out World Premiere at Michigan Theater Ann Arbor. The film was introduced by Ann Arbor Mayor, Christopher Taylor; and received a standing ovation from the 1,600+ crowd.
The timely documentary film, "Me, The 'Other'" voices an urgent message that our diversity should be the cause of unity for our communities in these challenging times. The unsettling and rapidly-shifting energies in the world inspired over 200 (mostly local volunteers) cast and crew members to come together with the urge to address the growing hatred and prejudice within our communities in a documentary film guaranteed to spark conversations about "otherness" and "oneness" in our human family.
The cast is comprised of a group of students from three local universities (Eastern Michigan University, Washtenaw Community College, and University of Michigan) in Washtenaw County of Michigan. The diverse group ranges from an African-American acting student from Flint who tells a personal heartbreaking story of the current water crisis in her community; a student from Mexico on the DACA program living in fear of deportation; a #metoo story of an orphaned immigrant from Cameroon; a Muslim Pakistani immigrant; and a 65-year-old transgendered student who was homeless and alcohol and drug dependent but chose education over suicide.
