Ice Block will be leaving Standard, making Mages very sad. Blizzard

Blizzard just announced the next Hearthstone Standard rotation will be the Year Of The Raven and will start sometime in the next couple of months. Though it might not be as menacing as a kraken or a mammoth, this year’s collection of expansions will be nothing but extraordinary, Just like previous years, Year Of The Raven will see three new expansions of around 120 cards each, which have already been teased in Ben Brode’s Fireside Chat video announcing the change. Though it’s impossible to infer anything from three glowing circles, it’s cool to theorize what could be next for Blizzard’s wildly successful card game.

Alongside new sets, the Year Of The Raven will also be rotating three cards to the Hall Of Fame: Ice Block, Coldlight Oracle and Molten Giant which will be reverted back to its pre-nerf stats. In an interview with PCGamer , Brode said “"We're not rotating [the cards ] because they're too powerful, we're rotating them because we want to see fresh new decks in Standard."

A long-awaited tournament mode will finally come to Hearthstone , allowing players to create brackets and games inside the client. Sadly, the mode won’t be used for esports professional play because “it doesn’t allow for bans” according to Brode. I’m excited to be able to play my friends without using tournament organizing site Battlefy sometime in 2018.

Daily Quests, those mindless tasks used to grind gold to earn packs or play in the Arena, will also get a little bit easier. Quests that used to give 40 gold will now bestow 50 and daily wins will be lowered from three to two. Playing 50 cards of a certain class or type will be lowered to 30 as well, making the strain on everyone a little less heavy.

My favorite change has to be the introduction of a new Druid hero, Lunara The Dryad. Players will only have to complete 10 games of Standard to earn the frolicing elk, making her free to anyone willing to spend some time. She’s the first Druid hero added to Hearthstone and even though Jades might be rotating out, I’ll still be using her to Nourish and Wild Growth.
