Green protocol will be implemented in the Collectorate and the offices in the complex.
The office will henceforth be free of electronic waste. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by District Collector K.Vasuki on the zero waste project on Monday. A list of electronic waste in the various offices in the collectorate will be prepared soon.
Such waste, including computers, printers and other machinery which are not in a working condition, will be handed over to the Clean Kerala company. The waste will be collected at a rate of ₹10 per kg.
As part of the implementation of the green protocol, the use of plastic bottles and carrybags will be discouraged in the Collectorate. Environment-friendly alternatives will be promoted. The employees have been asked to bring their lunches in reusable steel plates, instead of plantain leaves or other packets.
Separate bins
Separate waste bins for segregation of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste will be placed in the office. Aerobic bins will be installed in the premises for processing biodegradable waste.
Plastic waste will be collected to be sent to recycling units. One employee in each office will be given the responsibility of monitoring the implementation of the green protocol.
Suchitwa Mission will organise training programmes for these employees.
