MARGAO: Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao, on Tuesday, disclosed that a statue of Dr Jack de Sequeira, the father of the Opinion Poll, will be installed at the Khareband junction, after carrying out the beautification of the site along with the Colva and Benaulim beach beautification.
Addressing the media in Margao, Alemao said, “The government has sanctioned Rs 13. 5 crore for the beautification of the Colva and Benaulim beach-approaching areas and develop it for parking purposes. The beautification work of Khareband junction with road widening will be taken up by spending crores of rupees. Once the Khareband junction is beautified, the statue of Dr Jack de Sequeira will be installed at the site.”
He further said that the bandh at Orlim will be reconstructed and beautified at a cost of Rs 4.9 crore.
“I have taken up the issues with the PWD Minister and the Chief Minister. Both have approved the works and signed the files. While a few tenders have been floated, other tenders will be floated soon,” he informed.
He also said that the work on roads in the interiors of Orlim that was pending for the last five years will be soon completed as the government has agreed to clear the pending bills of the contractor.
Replying to a query on the Western Bypass works, Alemao said as per the Chief Minister’s assurance, revised plan for construction of box culverts has been sent to us.
“I have requested the PWD engineers and consultants to come and explain the plan to the people of Benaulim. I want to allay the fears of the locals. The Chief Minister has assured that there will be no flooding,” he maintained.
