He is a habitual offender, say police

A 25-year-old man who stole cycles in Virugambakkam and surrounding areas was arrested by the police on Monday.

According to the police, the Virugambakkam station was getting complaints about missing cycles over the past many weeks. A special team comprising sub-inspector Murali and other policemen was formed and they went through CCTV footage from different parts of Virugambakkm to identify the suspect. In one of the CCTV recordings, he was seen riding a bicycle into a street. He parks it and then rides away in another cycle that was parked near it. “We found that he was Gunasekaran, a resident of Mettukuppam in Madhuravoyal,” said a police officer.

He had already been arrested twice on charges of bicycle theft and had been stealing cycles since 2012.

The police team kept a check on various streets in Virugambakkam and finally caught him on Monday.
