Tuesday, 27 February 2018 () The land for the San Francisco Mint, at the corner of Fifth and Mission streets, was acquired in 1867 and purchased with gold coin. The building, now a beloved landmark and tribute to the city’s rich history, was completed in 1874. The Mint survived the devastating earthquake and subsequent fire in 1906 and was restored to glory in the ’70s. The third annual San Francisco History Days creates a pop-up museum in the Old Mint with the help of historians, re-enactors, authors and other history buffs. The brick vaults and currency counting rooms host films, performances and tours, this weekend.
