Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) will be teaming up with Harvard Global Health Institute, USA for the establishment of the Centre for Patient Safety, Healthcare Quality and Leadership Academy and with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas and Montefiore Medical Centre, New York to enhance its pulmonary and critical care services. This is in addition to the plans for bringing lung transplantation as one of the key components of the Multiorgan Transplant Programme.
These two programmes/collaborations were unveiled during the silver jubilee celebrations of SVIMS at the Mahati Auditorium here on Monday.
Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas, the chief guest of the event, recalling the vision and contributions of former Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao in setting up of SVIMS, said the institution in the past 25 years had evolved into one of the premier medical centres. He lauded the efforts of the past managements of SVIMS for the transformation and urged the medical students to work with commitment towards their professions.
Ambitious roadmap
SVIMS Director-cum-Vice Chancellor Dr.T.S. Ravikumar outlined the roadmap for the next decade, particularly the action plan to develop institutes of excellence across 10 branches. In the past two years, SVIMS had created over 13 lakh square feet of infrastructure, he said.

Earlier in the day, SVIMS officials conducted a training programme on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in which several citizens took part.
