A two-year-old boy who was kidnapped from his residence in Rohini’s Bawana on Friday was rescued by the police on Sunday. Three people, including two women, have been arrested in connection with the case.
The police said that Sonia (name changed), Rajni (name changed) and Saurabh Goel, all residents of Bawana, have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping the boy for Rajni’s relative Santosh who had lost her child in a 2015 fire accident.
The boy’s 32-year-old father on Friday approached the police at Bawana police station stating that his son is missing. Following this, a case under Section 363 (Punishment for kidnapping) was registered.
During the probe, CCTV footage of the area was obtained where a woman was seen carrying the child. When locals were approached with the photo, they identified her as Sonia, who lived a few meters away from the victim’s house, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Rajneesh Gupta.
“When Sonia’s house was raided, she was found to be absconding. A team was formed to find her,” he said.
Location traced
However, with the help of technical surveillance, her location was traced to Anand Vihar ISBT from where she was arrested and the child was rescued.
The police claimed that she was attempting to run away by taking a bus to Uttar Pradesh with the boy when she was nabbed.
During the interrogation, she allegedly told the police that she had kidnapped the boy to sell him to Rajni and Saurabh for ₹45,000.
“On her instance, Rajni and her nephew Saurabh were arrested from their residence in Bawana,” said Mr. Gupta adding that ₹42,000 were recovered from Sonia. Rajni further said that along with Saurabh, she had planned to buy the child for their relative Santosh without telling the latter about the kidnapping.
